Job Description

Branch Assistant - Spider is advertising for a Branch Assistant position on behalf of a national highly respected electrical wholesale company. They are currently searching for a full-time, permanent, Branch Assistant, to join their busy branch in Exeter, Devon.

They buy and stock electrical products from the industry’s leading manufacturers and then sell them to electricians and other companies who require electrical equipment. They employ over 3,000 people and have more than 380 branches. They stock more than 120,000 different products and have thousands of customers of all shapes and sizes ranging from self-employed electricians to large national mechanical and electrical contracting firms.

The Branch Assistant role involves supporting the trade counter sales team and warehouse functions in a busy branch where everyone is hands-on.

Sales Office

  • Serving customers on the telephone
  • Processing purchase invoices, debit notes and purchase orders
  • Processing customer invoices and credit notes
  • General office administration tasks

Trade Counter

  • Serving customers
  • Stock and merchandise the trade counter with profitable ‘add on’ products
  • Keeping the trade counter clean, tidy
  • Organise promotions and other customer incentives/events


  • Picking and packing customer orders
  • Receiving and booking in deliveries from suppliers
  • Stock checks (including stock taking)
  • Loading and unloading of vehicles
  • Dealing with customer returns and stock cleanses to suppliers
  • Keeping the warehouse clean, tidy and observing all health and safety policies and procedures

As the successful Branch Assistant, you will be the face of the business and therefore must have a professional and friendly approach. It would be beneficial for the applicant to have relevant Trade Counter / logistic / Warehouse experience. Any experience within electrical wholesale is an advantage, but training will be provided for the right candidate. Applicants must have a minimum 4 GCSE passes C/4 or above including English and Mathematics. You will have a ‘can-do’ attitude and possess a keen eye for detail. A clean driving and forklift licence is preferred but not essential. Please note the successful candidate will be subject to security screening.

This is a full-time position offering a salary of £22,000 - £24,500 (depending on experience), paid monthly with the opportunity to earn an annual profit share bonus. Working 42.5 hours across opening hours of 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 12pm Saturdays, on a rota basis, with paid overtime and 1 hour for lunch.
