This role is predominantly home based with opportunities to work in our Ipswich office

Full time, fixed term position initially ending on the 30 June 2023 and only continuing subject to an extension of funding. This role is funded by the European Regional Development Fund. 

Business Adviser – Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, one of the leading business membership organisations in Suffolk, is looking for an experienced and driven Business Adviser to join our successful and well-established New Anglia Growth Hub team, to help businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk access their true potential by accessing a wide range of fully funded grants and business support. 

Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is a vibrant grassroots organisation that contributes to campaigns that benefit the whole of the county’s business community and also seeks to deliver improvements that are specific to our area by working with thousands of local businesses. Our New Anglia Growth Hub team have been in place since 2014 and is now coming into its final year of this current round of funding. As a business adviser, you will be helping established SME businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk with a wide range of business support and access to grants. You will be assessing the growth potential and needs of established businesses, spotting barriers to success, identifying grant opportunities, conducting in-depth eligibility checks leading to helping suitable candidate businesses build applications, and agreeing a plan of action to help local businesses to achieve their potential. 

To achieve the requirements for our funding, our advisers must accurately and regularly record complex information on our internal database as well as completing timesheets, and will be targeted to achieve targets of 3 hours and 12 hours of support for established SME businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk. 

This role will suit an engaging and knowledgeable candidate who can utilise a wide range of business knowledge including business plans, financial reports and budgeting as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills. You must be able to manage a high level of administration including processing information onto a database and timesheets in a timely and accurate manner.

Duties include:

  • assessing the growth potential and needs of established businesses through one-to-one meetings to diagnose barriers to innovation or advancement, identify opportunities to access grants and signpost to other support, and agree action plans 
  • assist businesses to apply for grant funding, making the application process as simple and straightforward as possible and ensuring all correct documentation and supporting evidence is collated
  • Conduct and complete appraisals of applicant business and projects to support grants panels in assessing applications.
  • Accurately process information including updating a database and providing timesheets 

Key skills: 

  • A wide range of local business knowledge including understanding business plans, financial reports and opportunities for growth
  • The ability to assess a business opportunity against set criteria for grants and growth
  • Strong administrative skills and experience of using databases
  • Ability to effectively engage with a wide range of business owners and senior level staff 

You will be able to work with minimum supervision and with a high degree of self-motivation, as well as being able to work toward shared objectives.
