Business Skills Adviser - Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is looking for knowledgeable and driven Business Advisers to join our successful and well-established New Anglia Growth Hub team, covering Suffolk and Norfolk, to provide business support, identify grant opportunities, and give skills advice. 

Our Business Advisers are responsible for the smooth and consistent delivery of quality business/skills support and grants to local businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk. You will be assessing the growth and/or skills potential and needs of new and established businesses, spotting barriers to success, identifying grants and other growth opportunities, and agreeing a plan of action. By raising awareness of the support on offer and identifying ways to support business and skills growth, you will be helping local businesses to achieve their potential. 

Business Adviser key responsibilities are: 

  • Identify a target list of local businesses with growth/skills potential using a range of data sources and responding to enquiries.
  • Arrange and undertake face-to-face and virtual visits with businesses in order to undertake diagnostics, identifying their needs and potential opportunities for grants and support, and stimulating growth plans for further contact and continued support. The skills adviser will do the same for skills support.
  • Represent the New Anglia Growth Hub team at exhibitions, meetings, and events, both face-to-face and virtually, as and when required.
  • Accurately and promptly document each business engagement and agreed actions and provide relevant referrals to national or local business support providers.
  • Collect robust data, prepare progress updates, and monitor reports as required. 

The successful Business Advisers will have a wide range of business knowledge. You will have an understanding of business plans, financial reports and budgeting, with the ability to diagnose issues and identify solutions. Good understanding of the local business community is a must as well as excellent communication and presentation skills. Up to date knowledge of the current skills and training landscape within the East of England, including upskilling, Kickstart, lifelong learning, and Apprenticeships is also desirable.  

You will be able to work with minimum supervision and with a high degree of self-motivation, as well as being able to work toward shared objectives. In return you will have the opportunity to shape and develop your skills within this exciting role, in a friendly, flexible, and proactive team. 

This role involves travel across Norfolk and Suffolk so the candidate must have a full driving licence and transport for business use. 

Flexible working opportunities are on offer, including homebased remote working. Our offices are located in Ipswich or Norwich and this position will cover all of Norfolk and Suffolk.

This is a fixed term position ending on 31 March 2022, with the possibility of an extension subject to continued funding. These roles are funded by the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy
