Job Description

HGV Class 1 Driver – Spider is advertising on behalf of a family-run organisation who specialise in the production and delivery of animal bedding who are based between Ipswich & Colchester in Raydon. They are currently searching for an HGV Class 1 Driver to be an integral part of the business. 

Are you an experienced HGV Class 1 Driver who is tired of tramping all week? Are you looking for variety in your working week? Are you well-mannered, patient & have a courteous approach with dealing with customers? If yes, then they would love to hear from you! 

As the HGV Class 1 Driver you will be responsible for the delivery of Animal Bedding either on pallets or in bulk. There may occasionally be night out shifts depending on the work and location. You will also be fully trained on machinery including Moffett Forklift Truck and Optionally Skid steer Bobcat to enable you to spread shavings/sawdust/straw in poultry sheds as well as exchanging trailers at sawmills and unload your own vehicle. The HGV Class 1 Driver will also ensure you follow Health & Safety site rules in house and at destination, maintain good levels of housekeeping and always follow procedures to IS0 9001 as well as completing necessary paperwork.

Key skills and attributes:

  • A Full clean HGV Class 1 licence
  • A minimum of 1 years Driving experience
  • Full Driver CPC
  • Moffett Fork Truck and or skid steer licence will be advantageous but not essential as training will be provided for the right candidate
  • Flexible, reliable, committed, team player
  • Good communication skills with both customers & colleagues
  • Physically fit to undertake manual Handling

This HGV Class 1 Driver position is full time 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Flexibility for starting and finishing times essential. For example, the shift pattern could be 6.00 am to 3.30 pm or 7.00 am to 4.30 pm. or 8.00 pm. to 5.30 pm and any other permutations required. Overtime including Saturdays is on a rota basis & is one in seven. Night Out work will be required approx. twice a week during busy periods.

On offer is a starting salary of £27,846 per annum, increasing to £28,951 once trained to spread on farms. Overtime rates are also offered as well as night out tax-free subsistence allowance of £25.00. Other benefits include uniform, company pension,4 weeks paid holiday plus all 8 bank holidays, training provided for suitable candidate where required, free tea & coffee and improved job satisfaction due to variety throughout working week      

Please note, due to the nature of the working environment, you will need to be free of asthma or any other respiratory conditions, as atmosphere is dusty (protective masks will be provided) and physically fit to undertake some manual handling. Own transport is also required due to the site’s rural location.
