Job Description

Production Operative including Fork Truck Driver /Loading Shovel Operative – Spider is advertising on behalf of an award-winning family run business based between Ipswich & Colchester who process & deliver animal bedding primarily in the Eastern Area of England.  

They are looking to recruit an ambitious person who would be keen to grow and develop with them meeting their desire to create job opportunities and promotions from within of which we have a high success rate. 


Duties & Responsibilities  

  • To communicate with all team members, reporting to Production Manager & Late Shift Supervisor 

  • To load/unload vehicles using Fork Truck & Loading Shovel 

  • To operate Baling/Shredding/chopping machines once fully trained 

  • To ensure factory area is clean and tidy  

  • To ensure Day Book Data is accurately kept  

  • To Follow/understand Health & Safety site rules 

  • Good levels of Housekeeping to be maintained at all times 

  • To wear protective & safety equipment supplied to them 

  • To maintain Quality System, following procedures to ISO 9001 – completing necessary paperwork

  • To work in an environment that can be unpleasant, dusty, noisy, hot or cold 

  • Some manual handling required 

  • Some repetitive duties 

  • Flexibility of shift patterns  

Personal Qualities  

  • Flexible, reliable, committed, team player 

  • Good communication skills 

  • Physically fit to undertake some manual Handling 

  • Be free of any asthma or respiratory problems as environment is dusty (protective masks provided) 

  • Have a positive ‘Can do’ attitude 

  • Regular Drug & Alcohol screening tests to be passed due to safety critical role  

Fork Lift Licence would be advantageous – Training will be provided for right candidate  

Experience on a Loading Shovel would be advantageous – Training will be provided 

Own mode of transport needed due to rural location. To be available for overtime if requested  


  • Uniform Provided 

  • Basic Salary NMW + Productivity Bonus. (On Target Earnings approx. £25,000 per annum) 

  • Authorised only overtime paid after basic hours reached 

  • After 3 months, opportunity to earn productivity bonus 

  • Free Tea & Coffee 

  • 4 weeks paid holiday plus 8 bank holidays per annum 

  • Company Pension Scheme 

  • 38.75 Hours per week 

  • Start & Finish times to be flexible - Flexible with shift patterns 

  • Regular shift patterns on alternate weeks are: 9.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m / 12.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. 

  • And any other permutations required 

  • Overtime available at busy periods & on a Saturday occasioanlly 

  • 45 minute unpaid break   

Please note, due to the nature of the working environment, you will need to be free of asthma or any other respiratory conditions, as atmosphere is dusty (protective masks will be provided) and physically fit to undertake some manual handling. Own transport is also required due to the site’s rural location.
