Job Description

Supply Chain Business Adviser - Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, one of the leading business membership organisations in Suffolk, is looking for a talented and ambitious Supply Chain Business Adviser for this newly created role, to provide targeted business advice and help uncover contract opportunities for the Sizewell C Supply Chain project. This is initially a fixed term contract until 31 December 2020 with opportunities for extension based on achieving key milestones.

The Supply Chain Business Adviser will provide a brokerage, contract-matching and information dissemination service to local businesses that will match the Supply Chain organisations with industry buyers both nationally and regionally. Through a wide range of targeted engagement opportunities, you will raise awareness of the supply chain offer and develop business improvement plans to assist suppliers in maximising their chances to win contracts at Sizewell C. You will be working alongside key stakeholders including EDF Energy, New Anglia LEP, and local authorities, and therefore you will play a pivotal role in building strategic relationships across Suffolk and beyond.

The perfect candidate will have a good knowledge of businesses within Suffolk and an understanding of the challenges and opportunities relating to supply chains and suppliers, along with the delivery of a high value supply chain sourcing and enabling service. With experience in presenting to a range of businesses, you will have outstanding communication and organisation skills as well as experience in managing your own lead generation and conversions and providing creative and innovative ideas for engaging with local business. This is a market and customer facing role which will involve extensive networking and the attendance at a range of events, from business breakfasts and networking sessions, to conferences, seminars, and exhibitions, and so excellent networking and negotiating skills are a must.

The role will suit an outgoing, charismatic, dynamic, and forward-thinking business adviser who has an excellent understanding of the local business landscape and is comfortable and capable of communicating with senior management, businesses, stakeholders, and local authorities.

Essential skills:

  • Demonstrable experience in business development/engagement/advice to achieve business growth
  • Understanding of supply chain opportunities
  • Diagnostic skills to signpost and support businesses who aim to win supply chain contracts
  • Identifying and generating business leads and opportunities
  • Excellent networking and negotiating skills
  • Understanding of businesses, local authorities, and stakeholders regionally and nationally
  • Understanding of finances and budget management
  • Collaborative and proactive approach
  • The ability to ‘think on your feet’ and problem solve under pressure
  • Highly organised, self-motivated & punctual
  • Positive and flexible approach to working, including some out of hours work
  • A full driving licence and access to transport

In return you will have the opportunity to shape and develop your skills within this new role, in a friendly, flexible, and proactive office environment.  The salary is £30,000 - £35,000 per annum + expenses, company pension, onsite parking, and healthcare package. Flexible working opportunities including occasional home working.
