Job Description

Test Automation Engineer - Spider is advertising for a Test Automation Engineer on behalf of a UK leading port Community Systems Provider (CSP). They work in close partnership with port and terminal operators, shipping lines, shipping and forwarding agents and hauliers. They are currently looking for a Test Automation Engineer to join their successful team in Felixstowe, Suffolk. 

The focus of the Test Automation Engineer role is to develop and employ contemporary Quality Assurance processes in order to support the successful development and implementation of systems changes or new systems used by the organisation. This role is a permanent full-time position; Predominantly focusing on creation and maintenance of automated test scripts and the over-arching test automation framework.  Complement existing QA test processes and procedures by facilitating efficient regression testing of Destin8 and its back-end databases, including system integration testing to external supported systems.  Requires application of ISTQB best practices and test techniques, entailing Black Box (both dynamic and static), White Box, and Exploratory testing. 

Other key responsibilities will include: 

  • To contribute to the E2E planning process for all new and changed systems requirements for systems operated by MCP plc as directed, focusing on early testing principles.
  • Adhere to BCS ISTQB professional testing standards and utilise ISTQB techniques in testing practices.
  • Develop a specific test plan in the context of the overall change consisting of; business requirements, product specifications, estimation, condition identification, design of test cases, development of automated test scripts and acceptance criteria.
  • To conduct static testing of the business requirements and product specifications.
  • Utilise Test Estimation techniques (i.e., Work Breakdown Structure, Wide Band Delphi, poker planning etc.) on a continuous evaluation of estimates basis with which to feed back into the overall release plan, based on progress/test coverage/risk.
  • Create and maintain a Test Automation Framework from the ground-up.  Create automated test scripts written in Java utilising Selenium supported by the qTest toolset.  Knowledge of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) and specification by example written in Cucumber
  • Attend planning and review meetings as required to gather information and provide input to the requirement and design process, formulating test design cases and report on the progress of testing activities.
  • Utilise the Atlassian JIRA issue-tracking tool to administer defect progress.
  • Maintain the currency of own skills through regular Continuous Professional Development.

The Test Automation Engineer will be educated to degree level or equivalent industry experience.2 years’ experience performing System Testing/Quality Assurance functions and proven experience in implementing test automation frameworks. You will be highly IT proficient and well-grounded in the practice of a Technical Tester, therefore advanced PC/Mobile/web-oriented skills are essential. You will have actively engaged in Software Development Lifecycles: Sequential (Waterfall / V model), Iterative (Agile) and possess knowledge of and experience with a variety of automation frameworks for example: Robot Framework. As well as being proficient in JAVA, you will have a strong configuration managed approach to code management and use within continuous integration workflows, utilising tools such as Git or SVN (Subversion). Hands on, proven and demonstrable experience of designing, building and maturing automation frameworks from scratch, including: Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) using tools such as Bamboo is highly beneficial. Self-motivation, creativity, logical thinking and the ability to work under pressure is also required. 

This Test Automation Engineer role is a permanent, full-time position. The salary on offer is £35,500 per annum plus performance related bonus. Company benefits include holiday of 25 days plus bank holidays and company pension.
