Vehicle Checker– P&O Ferrymasters, a pan-European leader in tailor-made transport, logistics and supply chain solutions. We are looking for an experienced Vehicle Checker to join us on a permanent basis, based in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.
As a Vehicle Checker you will be part of a highly dedicated and professional team, which is responsible for delivering the highest quality of service to an internationally dedicated client base. Your team consists of experienced Customer Service Representatives and by teaming up with other operational and supportive departments within the organisation; a high service level can be achieved with the shared aim of achieving the very best for our customers.
As Vehicle Checker you will be responsible for meeting all incoming drivers pulling on behalf of P&O Ferrymasters to collect loads out of British Steel’s site in Scunthorpe.
Other key responsibilities will include:
- Enter driver details onto handheld devices as part of Auditing process
- Issue guidance to drivers regarding site maps and load securing
- Ensure drivers are acting and behaving safely at all times
- Undertake a physical check of every trailer to ensure no debris or excess waste is taken to Rod Mill and that trailers are fit for purpose with no defects
- Check all load securing straps for wear and tear and condition, and replace where necessary
- Complete Crash reports regarding non-conformances and quantify corrective actions taken
- Undertake housekeeping duties and clean-up of trailer parks periodically
As Vehicle Checker you possess excellent communication skills and be able to liaise with people at all levels competently and professionally. You will have good organisational skills, including the ability to keep calm at peak operational times. You will have H&S knowledge and awareness (ideally to a minimum of IOSH Managing Safely). You will have a broad knowledge of despatch operations and LGV driver procedures. You will need the ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
This is a full-time position, working 32.5 hours per week on an alternating shift pattern of 6am-1pm and 1pm-8pm. In return, we are offering a competitive package in line with the seniority of the position.
